1. Acceptance and operator
Cognito System (“Cognito,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is operated by Aleksei Usanov. By downloading, accessing, purchasing, or using Cognito, you agree to these Terms and the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

2. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use Cognito. If you are under the age at which you can enter a binding agreement or consent to an online service where you live, your parent or legal guardian must review and accept these Terms for you.
3. What Cognito provides
Cognito is an educational study system for creating, organizing, and reviewing learning material. Features may include exam-aware AI generation, manual cards, imports from supported sources, FSRS spaced repetition, study modes, tutoring, translation, explanations, skill trees, analytics, notifications, optional iCloud sync, and subscription features.
Feature availability, generation limits, supported models, exam formats, source types, and device requirements may change as the product evolves. Some features require an internet connection, compatible hardware, a third-party service, or an active subscription.
4. License and acceptable use
Subject to these Terms and the Apple Standard EULA, you receive a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use Cognito on supported Apple-branded devices for personal educational purposes.
You must not:
- use Cognito for unlawful, fraudulent, abusive, or harmful activity;
- attempt to bypass subscription checks, generation limits, App Check, security controls, or service restrictions;
- reverse engineer, scrape, overload, probe, disrupt, or gain unauthorized access to the app or its services, except where applicable law expressly permits it;
- use automated means to make excessive requests or resell access to Cognito or its AI services;
- upload malware or content that infringes privacy, intellectual-property, or other rights;
- use generated content to cheat where an institution or exam rule prohibits assistance.
5. Your content
You retain ownership of material you create or lawfully provide to Cognito, including notes, prompts, documents, recordings, images, cards, and decks (“User Content”). You grant us and our service providers a limited license to host, transmit, transform, and process User Content only as needed to operate, secure, and provide the features you request.
You represent that you have the rights and permissions needed to use and process User Content. Do not upload copyrighted textbooks, paid course content, recordings, personal data, or other material unless you are authorized to do so.
Medical and confidential content: do not enter patient-identifiable information, protected health information, confidential records, trade secrets, or credentials. Cognito is not designed as a medical-record or confidential-document system.
6. AI-generated content
AI features can produce incomplete, outdated, misleading, or incorrect material. You are responsible for reviewing generated cards, explanations, translations, citations, and recommendations against your syllabus, textbooks, instructors, and authoritative sources before relying on them.
Generated output is provided for educational assistance and may not be unique. Other users may receive similar output. To the extent permitted by law, we do not promise ownership, copyrightability, accuracy, or exclusivity of generated content.
7. Exams, education, and medical disclaimer
Cognito is independent and is not endorsed by, sponsored by, or affiliated with exam boards, universities, testing organizations, government education authorities, or the owners of exam names and trademarks shown in the app.
Exam formats, syllabi, terminology, scoring, and requirements can change. Selecting an exam helps shape practice but does not guarantee official alignment, admission, certification, a passing score, or any academic result.
Medical content is for study only. Cognito does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, treatment, prescribing guidance, or clinical decision support, and must not be used for patient care or emergencies. Qualified professional judgment and current clinical guidance always take priority.
8. Subscriptions, trials, and purchases
Cognito may offer free features and auto-renewing subscriptions with different periods, limits, and benefits. Available products, localized prices, billing periods, trial eligibility, and included features are displayed in the App Store purchase sheet before you confirm a transaction.
- Payment is charged to your Apple ID through the App Store.
- Auto-renewing subscriptions renew unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, subject to Apple’s applicable terms.
- Your Apple ID may be charged for renewal within 24 hours before the current period ends.
- You can manage or cancel a subscription in your Apple ID subscription settings. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
- If a free trial is offered, it converts to a paid subscription unless canceled before the trial ends. Eligibility is determined by Apple.
- Refunds and billing disputes are handled by Apple under App Store rules and applicable law.
- Use “Restore Purchases” in the app to restore eligible entitlements associated with your Apple ID.
We may change future prices, plans, limits, or included features. Apple will provide any notice or consent required for subscription price changes. Changes do not remove mandatory consumer rights.
9. Third-party services
Cognito relies on services provided by Apple, Google Firebase, Google Gemini, Google Search, DeepSeek, and content sources you choose to access. Their terms, availability, safety systems, rate limits, and privacy practices may apply. We are not responsible for third-party services outside our reasonable control.
Links, imported webpages, videos, papers, and other external material do not imply endorsement. You are responsible for complying with the terms and rights that apply to each source.
10. Privacy and data
Our Privacy Policy explains how local study data, optional iCloud sync, AI requests, Firebase identifiers, analytics, diagnostics, notifications, feedback, purchases, and advertising attribution are handled.
11. Availability, updates, and termination
We work to keep Cognito reliable but do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation. Online features may be unavailable due to maintenance, provider outages, network conditions, regional restrictions, safety controls, or events outside our control.
We may update, replace, suspend, or discontinue features when reasonably necessary for security, legal compliance, provider changes, product improvement, or service viability. Where appropriate, we will try to give reasonable notice of material changes.
We may restrict or terminate access to online features if you materially breach these Terms, abuse the service, threaten security, or create legal risk. You may stop using Cognito at any time. Subscription cancellation is handled separately through Apple.
12. Intellectual property
Cognito, its software, interface, branding, original website content, and related materials are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. These Terms do not transfer ownership of Cognito to you.
Apple, App Store, iCloud, and other third-party names are trademarks of their respective owners. Exam names and marks also belong to their respective owners and are used only to identify study context.
13. Warranty disclaimer and consumer rights
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Cognito and its services are provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose, uninterrupted operation, exam performance, or educational outcome.
Nothing in these Terms excludes warranties, remedies, or consumer rights that cannot legally be excluded. If the law where you live grants mandatory rights, those rights remain in effect.
14. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive loss; loss of data, opportunity, grades, admission, certification, revenue, or goodwill; or decisions made using generated content. This limitation does not apply where liability cannot legally be limited, including liability for fraud, intentional misconduct, or other non-excludable matters.
15. Apple-specific acknowledgements
You and we acknowledge that these Terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for Cognito, its content, maintenance, support, warranties, product claims, legal compliance, or intellectual-property claims, except as required under the Apple Standard EULA or applicable law.
You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as supporting terrorism and are not listed on a U.S. Government prohibited or restricted-party list, to the extent this representation is required by Apple’s terms.
You must comply with applicable third-party terms when using Cognito. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce the Apple-related provisions after your acceptance.
16. Governing rules and disputes
These Terms are governed by applicable law, including any mandatory consumer protections in your country of residence. Before starting a formal dispute, please contact us so we can try to resolve the issue informally. Nothing here limits your right to use a court, regulator, or alternative dispute process available under mandatory law.
17. Changes, severability, and contact
We may update these Terms when Cognito, providers, or legal requirements change. The current version and date will remain available here. If a provision is unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue to apply. Failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver.
